Interesting article! Well done, with lots of helpful and valuable information for anxiety. Unfortunately in our ‘comfort seeking’ culture we avoid processing our ‘ bad’ feelings and label them to get a prescription. This avoidance response starts very early in life by well meaning adults. We equate shutting down the hurt with stopping the pain. Sine we our vulnerable to our environment and are hard wired to survive after thousands of ‘ be quiet or shut up’ we have basically disabled our emotional intelligence and conform to the dominant culture. So as adults we’re susceptible to anything that resembles those past unresolved distresses. We go along and comply in order not to feel and resolve what could have been healed immediately after it happened and be done with it. Much easier to manipulate people and have them constantly feel bad about themselves in a consumer culture. The human condition is the ability to recover from any distress experience if someone allows it. ‘Be a big boy or girl and don’t cry. ‘ You still want to know why we feel anxious- this is it. We took any the natural healing process of emotional discharge and replaced it with ‘ stuff. ‘
